As destiny would have it, on the train he meets Anjali (Tamannah) – a beautiful but annoyingly talkative girl who is leaving Chennai to go her hometown – Theni. Later, she has plans of eloping her boyfriend. Anjali irritates Shakthi to the point of getting him to leave the train. As she tries to get him back on the train, she ends up missing it and the two find themselves stranded on a desolate station with no luggage or money.
Begins the idyllic journey through the exuberant South Indian heartland in which this odd couple will make their way through buses and taxis and bullock-carts, crossing Higways, meeting all kinds of people, to reach her house in Theni. On arrival, Anjali`s family mistakes the two for lovers. Before this misconception can be cleared, Anjali escapes to her boyfriend in OOty. Shakthi leaves with her, confirming the suspicion that they are lovers. In Ooty, Shakthi feels empowered to return to Chennai and resurrect his ailing business.
Life takes a positive turn and Shakthi begins to do well. One day Anjal`s family who think that she is with him confronts Shakthi. He is shocked to learn that Anjali has not returned home. He takes I upon himself to find her. He finally tracks her down an begins another journey to reach Theni and flow into the colors and conceptions of a loud and happy South Indian family!
How their separate journeys become one, forms the storyline of Kanden Kadhalai, a beautiful and captivating the made-for-each-other-love. The film is a complete family entertainer which is sure to be thoroughly engaging and entertaining to the audience. Santhanam, who plays the role of Raju (Anjali`s maternal uncle) is a laugh riot and ensures that every bone is shaken through his comedy scenes. Musical, amusing and packed with mischievous contrivances – this breezy fun-filled romantic comedy set in cultural South India, is ready to create the magic.
